American Bulldogs in the South West of England

About Us

Strictly speaking we are not breeders just a couple of enthusiasts who are passionate about the American Bulldog. In American terms we are known as ‘American Bulldogs Fanciers’ however, we do occasionally breed our dogs, but only to get a good healthy result in the breed.

All our American Bulldogs live in our home and are considered to be part of the family. The only time they are kenneled is after they have been for a run in the woods and when the weather is hot.

However, when you have as many American Bulldogs as we do residing in the home, you need to adopt a strict code of conduct! Rules are good for dogs, it is only humans who break the rules which confuses the dogs and can result in an accident or bad behaviour.

All dogs like routine and it is when the routine is disrupted or something is going on that is not the norm, then a dog will become unsettled and agitated and that is when things can go wrong. Christmas time is a classic example with lots of people, toys and loud music etc. the dog can become confused because of the different environment they are now faced with.

The American Bulldog is a fantastic dog to own and even though this dog is big, it is very agile with real staying power and, as we have a number of American Bulldogs, we have gained an incredible insight into their natural canine world because the American Bulldog still possess some of the wild dog traits, which many domesticated breeds have lost over the years.

We very rarely show our dogs, mainly because the venues are so far from Exeter. However it would give us enormous pleasure to know that one of our dogs has gone on to achieve champion status.  On our wish list is eventually to get some land and hold an American Bulldog Show here in the South West of England; whether this will ever happen who knows? but we can dream...!

Devon Bullies American Bulldogs

Our American Bulldogs are more standard performance Scott type in features and build and not the heavy bully Johnson type, yet they do fall into the “Hybrid” category and carry many of the sought after bloodlines such as Hines, Stover, Johnson and Sure-Grips. In fact Kieva our very first American Bulldog is a descendant of Sure-Grip’s Rattler the American Bulldog who played the part of “Chance” in the Walt Disney film Homeward Bound

In 2007 we bought 'Dis' from Baltic Bulls in Germany. The reason we bought an American Bulldog from Germany was because we wanted a nice fresh bloodline to avoid line breeding, which is a bad breeding practice and can cause many health problems. There are quite a lot of American Bulldogs in the UK, but the bloodline tends to be very close and we decided that to get the best results, it was better to go the extra mile and buy a fresh bloodline from Europe. 'Dis' also has the well renowned names of Boyd, Symmes, Ostergaard and Joshua’s.

We are now registered as American Bulldog Kennels
